Dear Students, Parents, Faculty, Staff, Friends and Members of the Nazareth Community:
It is with great pleasure that I announce the promotion of Mrs. Providencia Quiles to the position of President of Nazareth Regional High School, effective July 1, 2020. In her new role, Mrs. Quiles will be externally focused, with emphasis on fiduciary responsibilities, development, alumni/community relations and representing the school to an ever-growing audience of donors.
Mrs. Quiles’ remarkable leadership, as Principal, over the past 10 years, not only ensured that the doors of Nazareth remain open, but that the school thrive during this time as well. All academic departments were strengthened during Mrs. Quiles tenure. She continued to focus on making the academic program more challenging but also more responsive to students’ needs. Mrs. Quiles started the SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services)/Resource Room program, partnering with an outside agency to bring daily assistance to over 40 students a year. Nine advanced placement classes are now offered, and over 50 college credits are available to students through affiliation with programs at St. John’s University, St. Joseph’s College and Long Island University. The Religion and Community Service departments have been completely revitalized. All students, freshmen through senior, now take part in an engaging Campus Ministry program.
Mrs. Quiles also led the development of the technology program at Nazareth, from the initial wiring of the entire school, to the launching of the one to one chromebook technology program, the offering of Code Java and AP Computer Science classes, zSpace technology, 3D printing, robotics and the installation of in-focus J-touch interactive TV boards in 90% of Nazareth classrooms.
Mrs. Quiles oversaw numerous improvements to the building/plant, including, a new science lab, a new gym floor, water heater replacement and many upgrades and renovations to all classrooms. Safety and security were also updated, with the addition of a full-time security guard and the installment of a 50-camera security system.
The school website was redesigned with a fresh look and consistent message.
Mrs. Quiles accomplished all this while making sure that the school was fiscally stable.
Prior to her stewardship as Principal, Mrs. Quiles served as Assistant Principal for three years and was an English teacher for three years before that. Every decision that Mrs. Quiles has made during her time at Nazareth, has been guided by what’s best for the student body. Her dedication, devotion, commitment and love for the school and its students is always evident.
In the next few weeks, the school will gather feedback and input from all its constituents as we eagerly start the search for Nazareth’s new Principal. Nazareth will seek a dynamic, faith-filled practicing Catholic as its new Principal leader.
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Quiles in her new role.
Ms. Sharon Brown-Veillard
