A warm and beautiful day on Sunday May 19th in Marine Park in Brooklyn where the McCarthy Memorial Committee and the Fraser Civic Association honored Eugene McCarthy ’73 and Dennis McCarthy.
In 1991, while flying a mission in support of ground troops in Saudi Arabia, Major Eugene McCarthy was shot down and lost his life at the age of 35.
Dennis McCarthy was an Immigration Officer and later a Special Agent for U.S. Customs Service. Dennis died in 2018 from a 9/11 related illness.
The ceremony was attended by many civic leaders and politicians who were influential in creating and maintaining the McCarthy memorial in Brooklyn. In addition, members of the armed forces, NYC’s first responders, those that worked with both Eugene and Dennis as well as the McCarthy family and friends were all present.
The National Anthem was performed by Nazareth’s senior Maureen Marcel and Principal Rob DiRe spoke on behalf of Nazareth where he noted that the annual McCarthy Run will be re-instituted this year (October 19th in Rockaway) thanks to the generosity of a donor.
